The Institute of Latvian History at LU is an interdisciplinary research center specializing in history, archaeology, bioarchaeology, dendrochronology, and ethnology.

The Institute upholds high academic standards in the study of Latvian history and heritage, and manages culturally and scientifically significant archaeological and ethnographic collections, ensuring their preservation, enrichment, and accessibility.

LU will actively participate in the activities related to the Eastern Baltic Archaeogenomics network (WP3) and pilot research project (WP4).

Senior Researcher, Head of the Repository of Bioarchaeological Material

Senior researcher and head of the Bioarchaeological repository of institute of Latvian History of University of Latvia. Her research interests are related to demographics, nutrition, migration, health and quality of life of the ancient Latvian population, including formation and ethnology of the Latvian inhabitants and historical demography, women in prehistory of Latvia. In recent years she has focused on the study of the diet of the ancient Latvian population, using stable isotopic analysis.
