Members of the CoE Estonian Roots and the ECHO UTARTU team organised the session Interdisciplinary Approaches in Studying the Human Past in Eastern Europe and Beyond at the XXI World Congress of the International Union of Prehistoric and Protohistoric Sciences, held in Poznań, Poland, from 31 August to 4 September 2026.
The session aimed to expand ECHO mission and bring together experts from different disciplines to discuss the potential and challenges of interdisciplinary approaches to studying the human past. It included nine presentations covering a broad range of topics, including social organization, kinship patterns, and individual life histories in Bronze Age societies across Eurasia; migration and mobility in urban populations from the medieval to early modern periods; and human-animal interactions and introductions.
